Veteran defender Ahmed Fathi announced on Wednesday that he had left Al-Ahly, the Egyptian Football League champion, after a march in his ranks that spanned more than ten years, after negotiations with the management failed to renew his contract.
The 35-year-old issued a statement via "Twitter", in which he denied that there was a dispute with the administration headed by Mahmoud al-Khatib, saying that "it is not entirely correct and detailed that there is a dispute between me as a lover and player of the Al-Ahly club and his administration, which spared no effort in providing all the ways and conditions to end any Alleged and incorrect disputes. "
He added, "After more than 12 years of giving inside the walls of my home the Al-Ahly club, achieving achievements that would not have been achieved had it not been for the great Al-Ahly club to wear it. Al-Ahly, to whom I wish him all the best.
Fathi, who has played more than 130 international matches, stressed that his decision "is the most difficult decision I made in my career as a football player, which has lasted for more than 20 years. I have spared no effort or race point throughout these years in order to elevate the affairs of our beloved club, the Al-Ahly club, a decision that the heart strongly rejects." But the mind makes it imperative for us to make such decisions, this is how life taught us to get our heads high out of the door, and we are at the height of our giving so that we do not become a burden on the club or the fans. "
The move comes in the wake of the parties' negotiations on renewing the contract reaching a dead end. According to reports, Al-Ahly offered the player a new contract for two seasons, for 11 million pounds (about 700,000 dollars) in the season, while he requested 16 million (about a million dollars).
The player held a meeting with the Planning Committee headed by Mohsen Saleh on Monday to complete the negotiation, and asked for 48 hours to study the financial offer.
After Fathi announced his decision, the club responded with a statement from the Planning Committee, in which it expressed "its best wishes for success to Ahmed Fathi at the end of the current season."
Fathi has come under widespread criticism from the club's fans via the communication sites in the recent period, in light of reports of his proximity to Pyramids in a tempting financial offer for three seasons.
Known as "the Joker", Ahmed Fathi began his career playing in more than one center, his career with Al-Ahly in 2007, which included more than one external professional experience that included the Kuwaiti clubs Kazma and Umm Salal of Qatar, and Sheffield United and his compatriot Hull City on loan .
